Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders reportedly had his home broken into while he was making his NFL debut.
On Sunday (November 16), Sanders was playing in his first regular-season game at Huntington Bank Field for the Browns' matchup against the Ravens when the break-in occurred, per ESPN.
Medina County police said Tuesday (November 18) that three suspects were caught on surveillance cameras burglarizing Sanders' home at roughly 6:46 p.m. ET on Sunday. At least $200,000 worth of property was stolen from the residence, according to police.
Sanders' break-in is the latest among a growing string of burglaries targeting professional athletes' homes.
In recent months, the residences of NBA star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Luka Dončić, Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and Cam Jordan have all been hit. The NFL and NBA both issued memos in November 2024 warning players about burglaries occurring during games, when athletes are away from their homes.
Sanders entered Sunday's game for the Browns after quarterback Dillon Gabriel was sidelined with concussion symptoms at halftime. The regular-season NFL appearance was Sanders' first since being drafted in the fifth round by the Browns in April. Sanders threw for 47 yards and completed 4 of his 16 passes in Cleveland’s 23–16 loss.
“I’m thankful for the supporters, thankful for the fans,” Sanders said after the game. “I’m truly thankful for seeing all them 12 jerseys out there, and it was a great feeling.”
The QB is expected to make his first career start this week against the Las Vegas Raiders as Gabriel remains in concussion protocol. Sanders hasn't spoken out about the break-in to his home.
