Olympic sprinter Gabby Thomas is calling out racist comments about her Harvard education.
The call-out came after an X user claimed Thomas, who graduated from Harvard in 2019 with a neuroscience degree, "doesn't sound like she's the brightest out there."
The 27-year-old Olympian quickly suggested the X user take note of her Harvard degree.
“You’re probably right 🤷🏽♀️ 😂 darn my Harvard degree,” Thomas replied.
Soon after, Thomas said she was flooded with comments from people falsely claiming she was lying about her education. The star athlete called out the racism behind assumptions that she was faking her Ivy League degree in a separate post on X.
“Today, on Jan 26, 2025, there are hundreds of people commenting on my Twitter page that specifically because I am black, they must assume I did not earn my admission into Harvard nor did I earn my diploma. Is this real life??,” Thomas tweeted.
Along with her degree in neuroscience, Thomas graduated from Harvard in 2019 with a minor in global health and health policy. In 2023, Thomas earned a master's degree in public health from the University of Texas at Austin.
Thomas went on to win gold in the women's 200-meter final last summer at the 2024 Paris Olympics. She also earned gold medals with her teammates in the women's 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter races.
