A Miami Gardens family is mourning the loss of five loved ones after a devastating crash on February 8.
25-year-old Antonio Wilcox Jr. was driving 99 mph when he slammed into the victims' car, crushing it between two SUVs in Miami Gardens, Florida, according to authorities. The impact killed 51-year-old Rosa Mary Jones and her four grandchildren— 8-year-old Azariah McCall, 10-year-old Ireanna Johnson, 13-year-old Ka’Myra Graham, and 10-year-old Kamari Graham, who was celebrating his 10th birthday. The children’s mother, Donika Johnson, remains hospitalized in critical condition, still unaware of the immense loss.
Wilcox has been charged with multiple counts of vehicular homicide and DUI. Investigators say speed and alcohol played a role in the crash, which was captured on surveillance video. However, Wilcox’s mother claims her son may have suffered a manic episode rather than being intoxicated at the time of the accident.
The victims' family is struggling with the financial burden of burying five loved ones and covering mounting medical expenses. A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to help with funeral and recovery costs, but it has raised just over $30,000 of its $125,000 goal.
How You Can Help: Donations will go toward funeral expenses, medical care, and support for Donika Johnson as she recovers from her injuries and the devastating loss of her family.
