Stacey Abrams’ brand new legal thriller novel is set to get its own TV adaptation. According to Deadline, the novel, While Justice Sleeps, was snagged by NBCUniversal-backed Working Title Television in a bidding war.
The book was just published Tuesday (May 11) by Penguin Random House and follows the story of Avery Keene, a young law clerk who balances working for the famed Justice Howard Wynn and her own family issues. When Wynn slips into a coma, Keene learns that he made her his legal guardian and power of attorney.
This isn’t the first novel Abrams wrote, she’s previously published eight romance novels under the pen name Selena Montgomery. While Justice Sleeps is the first novel published under Abrams’ real name.
The voting rights advocate is set to executive produce the TV show alongside Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner.
“I created While Justice Sleeps to unravel a political mystery about power and secrets through the eyes of a protagonist dealing with her own demons. I am excited about the book’s release today, and I look forward to working with Working Title Television and Universal Studio Group to bring the intriguing world of Avery Keene to television,” Abrams said in a statement.
